Words Starting With
Enter a letter or prefix to find valid English words that begin exactly the way you need.
Search by prefix
A prefix search checks the beginning of every word in the Wordilizer dictionary. Enter a single letter for a broad list or a longer beginning, such as str, for more precise results.
What counts as a match?
The letters must be continuous and must begin in the first position. Searching for str can return words such as stream and strong, but not a word that contains those letters only in the middle. The search ignores capitalization and accepts letters A–Z; spaces, hyphens, and punctuation are removed from the query.
Combine a beginning with stronger clues
A one-letter beginning can produce thousands of candidates. Add a word length when a puzzle gives you a fixed number of squares, then add a known ending or a sequence that must appear inside the word. For example, searching for words that start with st, contain ea, and have six letters is far more useful than browsing every word beginning with S.
If you know individual positions rather than a continuous beginning, use the crossword pattern solver. A pattern such as st??e preserves the known letters and tests every five-letter match. If the letters are available but their order is unknown, the unscrambler is the more accurate choice.
Useful for puzzles, spelling, and writing
Prefix searches can help with crosswords, vocabulary exercises, alliteration, naming, and checking spelling families. They do not interpret meaning, pronunciation, grammatical role, or a clue's tense. Use the result list to form a shortlist, then confirm that the chosen word fits the sentence or the rules of the game.
Why some results may look unfamiliar
Wordilizer uses a broad open English list rather than an official dictionary for a particular game. It includes uncommon, historical, regional, and specialist vocabulary. A spelling match is therefore a candidate, not a promise that another product accepts it. See the methodology and review policy for the exact matching rules and known limitations.
