Two useful ways to search inside words

Exact sequence keeps your letters together and in order. Letters in any order checks that every letter is present, even when they appear in different parts of the word.

Exact sequence mode

Use this mode when adjacent letters are known. Searching for ea can return learn and speak because E and A appear together in that order. It will not return a word where A appears before E or where another letter separates them. Add a length, beginning, or ending to make a broad sequence more useful.

Letters in any order mode

Use this mode when letters are required but their positions are unknown. The search preserves letter counts: entering ee requires two Es in the result, while entering e requires only one. Other letters may also appear. This differs from the unscrambler, which can use only the supplied pool and never reuse a tile that is not available.

A practical search order

Begin with the clue you trust most. Set the exact length if a grid or game gives it, add any confirmed beginning or ending, and then enter the internal letters. If individual positions are known—such as A in the third place and E in the fifth—the pattern solverexpresses that evidence more precisely than a contains search.

Interpret results carefully
